It’s wild how many new horror movies have already released here in the early days of 2023, and this week brings a whopping TEN more to the table between now and this coming Friday.
In fact, since we’re getting this article up a day late – my apologies! – four of the movies on this list are already available for you to watch at your leisure from the comfort of home.

Blumhouse has joined forces with EPIX to “develop and produce eight elevated, standalone horror/genre-thriller movies exclusively for the network,” and up next from that collaboration is There’s Something Wrong With the Children, directed by Roxanne Benjamin (V/H/S, Southbound). The film was put up for rental on VOD and Digital outlets on Tuesday.
The cast for There’s Something Wrong With the Children includes Zach Gilford (“The Purge: Anarchy”), Amanda Crew (“Silicon Valley”), Alisha Wainwright (“Raising Dion”), Carlos Santos (“Gentefied”), Briella Guiza (“Ambulance”) and David Mattle (“Life & Beth”).
“When Margaret (Wainwright) and Ben (Gilford) take a weekend trip with longtime friends Ellie (Crew) and Thomas (Santos) and their two young children (Guiza and Mattle), Ben begins to suspect something supernatural is occurring when the kids behave strangely after disappearing into the woods overnight.”
Benjamin is a huge part of the Bloody Disgusting family, having helped us acquire our awesome BD Selects line of films and also producing both V/H/S and V/H/S/2 before going on to direct a segment in our horror anthology Southbound. She also helmed indie thriller Body at Brighton Rock, plus episodes of “Creepshow”, “Riverdale”, and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”.
Also released on VOD yesterday is the winter-set horror movie Snow Falls, which looks to be a psychological affair that aims to mess with the minds of it characters as much as possible.
Directed by Colton Tran, Snow Falls stars John Berchtold (A Hard Problem), Victoria Moroles (“Teen Wolf”), Anne Grace Barlow (“The Fosters”), and Patrick Fabian (“Better Call Saul”).
Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls, The Holiday Sitter) also appears in the movie.
In Snow Falls, “After a winter storm strands five friends in a remote cabin with no power and little food, disorientation slowly claims their sanity as each of them succumbs to a fear that the snow itself may be contaminated or somehow evil.”
The action-packed, cabin-set psychological thriller In Dreams, which stars Jean-Claude Van Damme’s daughter, Bianca Van Damme, began streaming on SCREAMBOX on Tuesday.
Directed by Matías Moltrasio, In Dreams follows a woman reeling from the news of her grandfather’s death. Check out the full plot synopsis and official trailer down below.

The other new release for Tuesday, January 17th was the indie horror movie Death Knot, a folk horror affair that marks the directorial debut of Cornelio Sunny (who also stars in the film).
“After the sudden suicide of their estranged mother, two siblings return to their hometown and are immediately confronted by angry villagers. Convinced that the woman was a devotee of a dangerous brand of black magic deemed responsible for a string of mysterious deaths over many years, the locals demand that the siblings leave and allow for the burning of their childhood home in order to rid the town of the curse.
“While initially skeptical, a string of strange occurrences leads the siblings to believe there may be more truth to the rumors than they ever dreamed possible.”

Emily Hagins (Pathogen, My Sucky Teen Romance, Scare Package) has been making horror movies since she was just 12 years old, and she’s back this week with a brand new one.
Horror-comedy Sorry About the Demon premieres on Shudder on January 19.
In the film, “What’s worse than getting dumped? For Will, it’s finding out that his new place is haunted. Now faced with a quarter-life crisis and a house full of spirits, Will must figure out how to make things right with his ex-girlfriend AND banish the sacrifice-seeking demon residing in his house.”
Jon Michael Simpson, Olivia Ducayen, Paige Evans, Jeff McQuitty and Presley Allard star. Aaron B. Koontz, Ashleigh Snead and Cameron Burns produce for Paper Street Pictures.

XYZ Films has acquired North American rights to the Argentinian horror film Legions, directed by Fabian Forte, and the mayhem comes to VOD outlets on Thursday, January 19.
In Legions, a powerful sorcerer, Antonio, is locked away in an asylum, and wastes away in his imprisonment as evil, demonic forces take control of Argentina.
If Antonio can escape the psychiatric hospital, and find his daughter, Helena, their combined strength could save Argentina, but Helena has forgotten her powers. Antonio must reteach her the ways of magic and be humanity’s last hope against this ancient evil.
The film stars Germán De Silva and Lorena Vega and was produced by Javier Diaz.
From the minds behind Searching comes the official sequel Missing, a brand new “Screenlife” thriller that’s coming to theaters from Sony this Friday, January 20, 2023.
Storm Reid and Nia Long star in Missing, with the cast also including Joaquim de Almeida, Ken Leung, Amy Landecker, Daniel Henney, Megan Suri and Tim Griffin.

Will Merrick & Nick Johnson directed for Sony’s Stage 6 Films. Merrick and Johnson also wrote the script based on a story by Sev Ohanian and Aneesh Chaganty.
Director Jason Eisener (“Treevenge”, Hobo with a Shotgun, V/H/S/2, and Vice TV’s hit “Dark Side of the Ring”) is back this year with the horror/sci-fi movie Kids vs. Aliens, which will release in Theaters, On Demand and Digital on January 20, 2023, from RLJE Films and Shudder.
Kids vs. Aliens is the latest collaboration between Bloody Disgusting, Cinepocalypse, and Studio71, who jointly produced V/H/S/94 and V/H/S/99.
In Kids vs. Aliens, all Gary wants is to make awesome home movies with his best buds. All his older sister Samantha wants is to hang with the cool kids. When their parents head out of town one Halloween weekend, an all-time rager of a teen house party turns to terror when aliens attack, forcing the siblings to band together to survive the night.
Eisener co-wrote the film with John Davies (Hobo with a Shotgun).
The upcoming movie stars Dominic Mariche (“Are You Afraid of the Dark?,” “Team Zenko Go”), Phoebe Rex (“The Last Divide”), Calem MacDonald (“The Umbrella Academy”), Asher Grayson Percival (“Scaredy Cats”), and Ben Tector.
Ashley Benson (Private Property) leads the cast of upcoming home invasion horror movie Alone at Night, and Vertical Entertainment brings the film to Digital outlets this Friday.

After retreating to a friend’s remote cabin in the woods to clear her head, she continues modeling sexy lingerie for her devoted followers on 18 & Over, an adults-only, live-streaming website.

The cast also includes Pamela Anderson (Baywatch), Luis Guzmán (Traffic), model Winnie Harlow, musician G-Eazy, rapper A$AP Nast, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Pelas (Extraction), John Robinson (Lords of Dogtown), Cassius Corrigan (Huracán), and Sky Ferreira (Baby Driver).
“With Alone at Night I wanted to make the kind of movie I would have snuck into as a teen. Slasher, stoner, a sexy thriller with killer music,” said director Jimmy Giannopoulos.
From director Mary Nighy, the brand new Lionsgate thriller Alice, Darling stars Anna Kendrick and first came to theaters in Los Angeles on December 30, 2022. The film will next be released nationwide in theaters, exclusively at AMC Theatres, this Friday.
