Also today, Guillermo del Toro’s “Cabinet of Curiosities” opens up its doors on Netflix, delivering a collection of stories “meant to challenge our traditional notions of horror.”
“From macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy, the eight sinister tales — including two original works by del Toro — will be brought to life by a team of writers and directors personally chosen by the Shape of Water filmmaker.”
Two all-new “Cabinet of Curiosities” tales will debut daily through Friday, October 28, when the entire collection of eight stories will be available to Netflix members around the world.
Here’s everything you need to know.
From Gravitas Ventures, Shady Grove arrived on VOD platforms today.

It’s also something of a farewell trip for the couple because they are expecting, though they haven’t told Elijah, yet. Their plan is to tell him at the beautiful cabin they found on a vacation rental app.
“Upon arrival the host is nowhere to be found, but she has left instructions for them on the door along with a gift basket of wine. Everything is perfect except the faint smell of death that only the pregnant Shaina can smell. After a visit by two beautiful women, Shaina quickly becomes suspicious – things just don’t add up.
“When Elijah disappears, she and Mark begin to search frantically for their friend, only to discover that they’re being hunted by figures wearing skinned animal masks.”

This two-hour documentary goes behind the scenes of one of America’s most beloved horror movies, Scream, to uncover the shockingly true story of serial killer Danny Rolling.
“From the voyeuristic child growing up in Shreveport, Louisiana to the violent killer preying on college girls in Gainesville, Florida, viewers will follow the evolution from a man to a monster and the real-life moments that inspired one of Hollywood’s most memorable movie villains along the way.”
XYZ Films has acquired North American rights to the cannibal horror movie Feed Me, directed by Adam Leader and Richard Oakes, and it’s coming to Digital outlets on October 27.
The film stars Neal Ward, Christopher Mulvin, Hannah Al Rashid and Samantha Loxley. Feed Me follows Christopher Mulvin’s character Jed, whose life is shattered when his wife, played by Samantha Loxley, suddenly dies and Jed feels directly responsible.

Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) is back with brand new monster movie The Lair, which comes to theaters and on Digital and VOD on October 28, 2022.
Charlotte Kirk (The Reckoning) stars in The Lair, which has been acquired by RLJE Films and Shudder. We’ve been told that Shudder will be streaming the film in early 2023.
In The Lair, “Royal Air Force pilot Lt. Kate Sinclair (Charlotte Kirk) is shot down over Afghanistan and finds refuge in an abandoned underground bunker where deadly man-made biological weapons – half human, half alien – are awakened.”
Marshall said in a statement, “I’m thrilled to be back in the world of full blooded action horror for the first time since ‘The Descent’ and ‘Dog Soldiers,’ and this film certainly holds some kinship with those two movies. Originally conceived as a small and contained indie film to shoot during lockdown, my ambitions for the movie grew into something much more action-packed and monster-fuelled, with a sci-fi twist. It’s packed full of cool characters, scares, laughs, and of course some grizzly death scenes.”
The Sundance Film Festival back in 2020 kicked off with Shana Feste‘s Run Sweetheart Run, which Meagan Navarro called “an entertaining battle soaked in blood.” The movie has been off the map completely since then, but it has resurfaced this Halloween season. The horror film finally debuts on Amazon Prime Video this Friday, October 28!

The influential businessman defies expectations and sweeps Cherie off her feet. But at the end of the night, when the two are alone together, he reveals his true, violent nature. Battered and terrified, she flees for her life, beginning a relentless game of cat-and-mouse with a bloodthirsty assailant hell-bent on her utter destruction. In this edge-of-your-seat dark thriller, Cherie finds herself in the crosshairs of a conspiracy stranger and more evil than she could have ever imagined.”
Lionsgate’s exorcism horror movie Prey for the Devil (formerly The Devil’s Light) arrives in theaters on October 28, the final big theatrical release for Halloween 2022.
In Prey for the Devil, “In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, the Catholic Church reopens exorcism schools to train priests in the Rite of Exorcism. On this spiritual battlefield, an unlikely warrior rises: a young nun, Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers).
“Sister Ann believes she is answering a calling to be the first female exorcist… but who, or what, called her? In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, Ann seeks out a place at an exorcism school reopened by the Catholic Church. Until now these schools have only trained priests in the Rite of Exorcism – but a professor (Colin Salmon) recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante (Christian Navarro), Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl, who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago. Determined to root out the evil, Ann soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her.”
Directed by The Last Exorcism‘s Daniel Stamm and written by Halloween H20: 20 Years Later‘s Robert Zappia, the film also features Virginia Madsen, star of the original Candyman, alongside Lisa Palfrey, Nicholas Ralph, and Ben Cross.
Henry Selick, the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, joins forces with Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope) for the brand new stop motion movie Wendell & Wild.
The spooky Halloween movie first came to select theaters on October 21, 2022, and that limited rollout is being followed by the Netflix streaming premiere on October 28.
Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele star in a tale of “the hellishly funny demons of a teen named Kat.” Directed by Henry Selick, the film was co-written by Selick & Peele.
“Wendell & Wild is an animated tale about scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Jordan Peele) – who enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot – a tough teen with a load of guilt – to summon them to the Land of the Living. But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other, an animated fantasy that defies the law of life and death, all told through the handmade artistry of stop motion.”
The final original horror movie in this year’s “Terror on Tubi” lineup is A Party to Die For, which will begin exclusively streaming on the free service on Friday, October 28.
In the film, “An aspiring socialite wakes up after a night of partying to her new friend asking her to help get rid of a dead body.”
From MarVista Entertainment, Sadie (Jonetta Kaiser, “Vampire Academy”) arrives in Los Angeles after escaping an unsavory past and reinvents herself as the successful socialite that she has always dreamed of being. She befriends Jessica (Kara Royster, “Supernatural”), a fun, slightly reckless daughter of a Vegas tycoon. After a night of debauchery, Sadie awakens to Jessica asking for help to get rid of a body, bonding the two of them by their grim decision and their dark secret.
Also starring Jermaine Rivers (“The Gifted”), Madia Hill Scott (“For Life”), Shay Guthrie (“The Virtuoso”), Nakia Dillard (“Law Abiding Citizen”) and Marko Christie (“Hustle”), A Party to Die For is written and directed by Nanea Miyata (“Dead in the Water”).
It’s a series rather than a movie but Netflix has one more original horror treat for the Halloween season. “The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself” will be premiering on October 28.
Described as an “edgy, YA drama that’s grounded in the modern day,” the Netflix series is set in a world where witches live amongst us. “Expect magic, sarcasm, banter, potions in zip-lock bags, hunters, romance, loyalty and unbreakable friendship…it’s a truly f*cked up ride.”
In “The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself,” sixteen-year-old Nathan (Jay Lycurgo) is the illegitimate son of the world’s most dangerous witch. Fearing he will follow in his father’s footsteps, Nathan is closely monitored throughout his childhood. As the boundaries between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ fray, Nathan – along with mischievous Annalise (Nadia Parkes) and charismatic Gabriel (Emilien Vekemans) – will soon discover who he truly is.
Written by Joe Barton (The Lazarus Project, Giri/Haji) and based on the Half Bad books by Sally Green. The series boasts an entirely new score created by British pop group Let’s Eat Grandma, with directors including Colm McCarthy (Black Mirror: Black Museum, The Girl with all the Gifts), Rachna Suri (Mr Whippy, Our Lad) and Debs Paterson (Willow, Domina).
