4 New Horror Movies Releasing This Week Including ‘Pennywise’ Documentary on Screambox!

This week is a hugely exciting one for all of us here at Bloody Disgusting, as the BD-powered SCREAMBOX streaming service will be exclusively debuting our biggest original release to date, the hotly anticipated documentary Pennywise: The Story of IT. And speaking of ’90s horror classics, this week also marks the return of the series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?“!

Here’s all the new horror arriving between July 26-July 31, 2022!


As mentioned up above, SCREAMBOX Original documentary Pennywise: The Story of IT will begin streaming on Tuesday, July 26th, taking an in-depth look at the 1990 mini-series.

Thirty-plus years after its release, the popular two-part miniseries IT and its infamous villain live on in the minds of horror fans around the world. Pennywise: The Story of IT, which is co-directed by John Campopiano (Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary) and Christopher Griffiths (Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser) and produced by Gary Smart (Dark Ditties Presents), captures not only the spark the IT saga created when it was released but also the lasting impact it has had on an entire generation and the horror genre at large.

Several years in the making, the film features exclusive interviews with many of the cult classic’s key players, from cast members Richard Thomas, Seth Green, and Tim Curry, who portrayed the notorious monster clown Pennywise, to director Tommy Lee Wallace and special effects makeup artist Bart Mixon.

The documentary also boasts a wealth of archival material and never-before-seen footage.

From Saban Films, the horror-western Blackwood also debuts on Digital outlets on July 26th, said to be “an intense journey into the darkness of the American Old West.”

The film follows a Native American woman and a notorious gang who discover they must help each other after they awaken an ancient creature.

“A seemingly unstoppable, violent creature stands between a gang of outlaws, a Native American woman, and a fortune of gold in the terrifying Old West. Dutch Wilder and his crew are tasked with ambushing prospectors who’ve discovered gold in the uncharted Blackwood Forest. But first they must track the horse thief who killed one of their men. The “thief” is a Native American, herself a victim of barbaric frontier injustice. Coerced in-to accompanying the gang through the treacherous terrain, she leads them deeper into darkness where they’re attacked by the malevolent, ancient entity. The Wilder posse and Native guide must work together and fight for their very survival.”

Glenn Morshower (Transformers: The Last Knight) and Tanajsia Slaughter (The Last Son) star.


Ahead of Scream 6 next year, new franchise star Melissa Barrera is next headed to Netflix for the limited series “Keep Breathing,” a survival thriller that premieres on July 28th.

In the six-episode limited series, “After her private plane crashes in the remote Canadian frontier, lone survivor and New York lawyer, Liv (Melissa Barrera), must battle both an unforgiving wilderness and past personal traumas to stay alive.”

Jeff Wilbusch, Austin Stowell, Juan Pablo Espinosa, and Florencia Lozano also star.

Maggie Kiley (Ep 1-3) and Rebecca Rodriguez (Ep 4-6) directed “Keep Breathing.”


The official sequel to Andrew Traucki’s The Reef, new movie The Reef: Stalked is swimming to Shudder this week, on Digital/VOD and streaming on Shudder on July 29, 2022.

The Reef: Stalked will also be available in select theaters on the same day.

Written and directed by Andrew Traucki (Black Water) as a follow up to his 2010 film, The Reef: Stalked stars Teressa Liane (“The Vampire Diaries”), Ann Truong (“Cowboy Bebop”), Saskia Archer (Boshack), Kate Lister (“Clickbait”) and Tim Ross (“Wonderland”).

In the sequel…

Nic, in an effort to heal after witnessing her sister’s horrific murder, travels to a tropical resort with her friends for a kayaking and diving adventure. Only hours into their expedition, the women are stalked and then attacked by a great white shark. To survive they will need to band together and Nic will have to overcome her post-traumatic stress, face her fears and slay the monster.”


XYZ Films will bring Addison Heimann‘s SXSW horror movie Hypochondriac to theaters this Friday, July 29th, before the film makes its way onto On Demand outlets on August 4th.

The cast for Hypochondriac includes Zach Villa, Devon Graye, Paget Brewster, Marlene Forte, Madeline Zima, Yumarie Morales, and Chris Doubek.


Ghost Island are you afraid of the dark

Nickelodeon’s “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” reboot series is back for a new season this summer, with “Are You Afraid of the Dark? Ghost Island” premiering on Saturday, July 30!

The new season will be the third as part of the reboot series, which kicked off in 2019 and continued just last year with “Are You Afraid of the Dark: Curse of the Shadows.”

Produced by ACE Entertainment, the limited series “Are You Afraid of the Dark? Ghost Island” will debut with a two-hour episode on Saturday, July 30, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon, with the remaining episodes airing Saturday, Aug. 6, and Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT).

The season “follows an all-new Midnight Society as they go on what they thought would be a fun summer vacation on a resort island, until they learn about something sinister haunting the guests. In the just-released teaser, viewers are introduced to the new members of the Midnight Society and get a glimpse at the horrors that await them on their vacation.”

In the premiere episode, “The Tale of Room 13/The Tale of the Teen Spirit,” four best friends get more than they bargained for and encounter genuine terror locked away in one of the rooms after checking into a hotel on a resort island. Then, as the kids try to enjoy summer vacation, they are pulled back into the mystery of the island’s ghosts, ultimately leading them to a terrifying and shocking revelation.

The new members of the Midnight Society are: Kayla, played by Telci Huynh (Modern Love, Drama Club); Max, played by Conor Sherry (The Terminal List, The Devil You Know); Leo, played by Luca Padovan (YouSchool of Rock the Musical on Broadway); Summer, played by Dior Goodjohn (Head of the Class); and Ferris, played by Chance Hurstfield (A Million Little ThingsGood Boys)Julian Curtis (Wish Man) also stars as Stanley Crane, the hotel manager at the island resort.

Dean Israelite (Power Rangers, Project Almanac) directed the new season.
