The final full week of February is upon us, and with it comes seven more brand new horror movies – including the at-home releases of this year’s two big theatrical horror offerings.
And one of those movies will be a bit bloodier this time around…
Here’s all the new horror arriving February 21 – February 24, 2023!
M. Night Shyamalan‘s latest thriller, Universal’s Knock at the Cabin was released in theaters on February 3, and we’ve learned that the film is NOW AVAILABLE on PVOD at home!
You can rent Knock at the Cabin for $19.99 or digitally purchase the film for $24.99.
Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin has made $47.9 million worldwide in theaters these past several weeks, with $31 million of that worldwide total made here in the United States.
In Knock at the Cabin, “While vacationing at a remote cabin, a young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed strangers who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. With limited access to the outside world, the family must decide what they believe before all is lost.”
Dave Bautista (Army of the Dead), Rupert Grint (“Servant”) and Nikki Amuka-Bird (Old) star alongside Ben Aldridge (“Pennyworth”) and Jonathan Groff (“Mindhunter”).
On Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital today from Cleopatra Entertainment is the new indie horror The Long Dark Trail, which the company is comparing to Stand by Me and Midsommar.
It’s also being called an “unnerving new folk horror tale.”
In the film, “After two impoverished teenage brothers manage to escape their abusive father, they embark on a treacherous and haunted journey in the hope of finding their estranged mother who has joined a sadistic cult, deep in the woods of Northwestern Pennsylvania.”
Trina Campbell and Brady O’Donnell star.
Kevin Ignatius and Nick Psinakis wrote and directed The Long Dark Trail.
Launching globally on Netflix on Wednesday, February 22, the original thriller The Strays promises to ratchet up the tension to expose the perfect life as a perfect lie.
Nathaniel Martello-White (Small Axe: Mangrove, Deceit, I Hate Suzie) wrote and directed The Strays, which stars Ashley Madekwe (County Lines, Revenge), Bukky Bakray (Rocks), Jorden Myrie (Stephen), Samuel Small (Bonus Track), Maria Almeida, and Justin Salinge.
In Netflix’s The Strays, “Deputy head of a private school Neve (Ashley Madekwe) lives with her husband Ian (Justin Salinger), and teenage children, Sebastian (Samuel Small) and Mary (Maria Almeida) in a nice house in an idyllic country town. But her carefully crafted upper-middle-class life begins to unravel with the arrival of two shadowy figures from her past, Abigail (BAFTA Award winner Bukky Bakray) and Marvin (Jorden Myrie).”
Released into theaters with a PG-13 rating, we had been hearing than an Unrated version of box office hit M3GAN was on the way, and indeed it will be released at home this week.
M3GAN arrives on Digital February 24 and on Blu-ray & DVD March 21 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, including the Theatrical Version and the Unrated Edition!
The Unrated Cut will also begin streaming on Peacock on Friday, February 24.
Writer Akela Cooper had revealed to Los Angeles Times last month that the original rated “R” incarnation of the film was a bit different. For starters, it was “way gorier.”
M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Get Out’s Allison Williams), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to.
When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.
Produced by Jason Blum and James Wan, M3GAN is directed by award-winning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone (Housebound), from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant, The Nun 2) based on a story by Akela Cooper and James Wan.
Inspired by true events, Universal’s Cocaine Bear is headed our way from director Elizabeth Banks (Charlie’s Angels), arriving exclusively in movie theaters on Friday, February 24.
The movie is inspired by true events that took place in Kentucky in 1985, and it was written by Jimmy Warden. Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) produced.
The basic gist of the story is that a 175-pound black bear was found dead from an overdose after ingesting massive amounts of cocaine dropped into the woods by a drug smuggler.
“The movie finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500- pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood.”
Keri Russell, Ray Liotta, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson and Jesse Tyler Ferguson star in the movie. Brian Duffield (Underwater, Spontaneous) is also on board to produce.
Directed by Elizabeth Banks from a screenplay by Jimmy Warden (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Cocaine Bear is produced by Oscar® winners Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, The Mitchells vs. The Machines) and Aditya Sood (The Martian) for Lord Miller, by Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman (Pitch Perfect franchise) for Brownstone Productions, and by Brian Duffield (Spontaneous). Robin Fisichella (Ma) will executive produce.
From co-writer and director David Liz, and starring Vincent De Paul, Camila Rodriguez, and Roe Dunkley, The Welder takes a chunk out of digital this Friday, February 24.
Terror Films previews, “The Welder takes the very prevalent issue of racism and subtly explores the true horror that is racial division and even offers a solution, albeit a morbid one.
“Eliza, a young Latina woman is haunted by a traumatic event she experienced while in the military, so her African American boyfriend takes her on a ranch to help relieve her anxiety and panic attacks. But once there, they find themselves in a fight for their lives as they attempt to elude the demented racial experiments of a doctor gone mad.”
Up next from Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon is We Have a Ghost, and while not technically a horror movie it’s one that will appeal to horror fans.
We Have a Ghost will premiere on Netflix on Friday, February 24, and it’s being described as an Amblin-style family adventure. Think Casper… meets Beetlejuice… through a modern lens.
Anthony Mackie (Synchronic) stars alongside David Harbour, with Tig Notaro (Army of the Dead), Jennifer Coolidge (Promising Young Woman), Jahi Di’Allo Winston (Charm City Kings), Erica Ash, Isabella Russo, Niles Fitch, Faith Ford and Steve Coulter.
In the film, “Finding a ghost named Ernest haunting their new home turns Kevin’s family into overnight social media sensations. But when Kevin and Ernest go rogue to investigate the mystery of Ernest’s past, they become a target of the CIA.”
Written and directed by Landon, We Have a Ghost is an adaptation of a story written by Geoff Manaugh that was published on Vice in October of that year. Manaugh’s story was titled Ernest, billed as a “socially mediated ghost story.”
