The Game Kitchen and developer Croxel Studios are making it that much harder for your wallet this month, announcing that their “game within a game” horror adventure title Tormenture will arrive on Steam on October 21. Accompanying the announcement is a new trailer that shows off Tormenture‘s 80s aesthetic with a modern touch of psychological horror.
Inspired by the aesthetics of classic 80s consoles, and combined with modern mechanics that enhance the horror, players will take on the role of a child who rents Tormenture, a video game rumored to be cursed. Having polishing off your homework. You decide to sit down and start playing this game on your Limbo 2800. What begins as a nostalgic experience soon spirals into a true nightmare. The dangers of the game begin to transcend the screen, affecting the real world surroundings.
Tormenture connects the digital world with the physical one, introducing mechanics such as blowing on cartridges, taking notes, and searching for clues that hearkens back to what many players would do while playing video games in the 80s. The Tormenture game within Tormenture will have you venturing into a vast labyrinth, full of mysterious corners to explore. Discover every nook and cranny and solve puzzles as you progress that will test your wits and cunning in the game’s world, and your own. Your decisions will affect the outcome, leading to one of three endings.
