It’s been quite a while now since we’ve heard a peep about the Final Destination franchise, with the most recent reports from 2020 indicating that a new installment in the franchise was in development. Last we heard, the series is being retooled with a brand new movie, and now Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car, Spider-Man: No Way Home) has come on board!
Variety reports that Watts will be producing the new Final Destination for HBO Max.
Based on a treatment by Watts, Lori Evans Taylor (“Wicked Wicked Games”) and Guy Busick (Scream 2021) are writing the new take on creator Jeffrey Reddick‘s popular franchise.
Producers on the new movie for New Line Cinema also include Dianne McGunigle (Cop Car) as well as Final Destination producers Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor.
“Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of ‘Final Destination’ from the very beginning,” Watts said in a statement. “So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.”
This will be the sixth installment in the hit franchise, and the first in over ten years. Each film centers on “Death” hunting down young friends who survive a mass casualty event.
Expect more brutal deaths on HBO Max soon!
