Fernanda Urrejola (Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho, Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico”) and Julio Cesar Cedillo (Netflix’s The Harder They Fall and “Narcos: Mexico,” Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario) join Josh Lucas (Ford v Ferrari, Sweet Home Alabama, Session 9, Thinner, American Psycho, The Forever Purge) in prolific action director Adrian Grünberg’s (Rambo: Last Blood, Get the Gringo) survival thriller The Black Demon, Bloody Disgusting learned.
“The film follows oilman Paul Sturges (Lucas) as he takes his family on vacation to Bahia Azul. There, the coastal town he and his wife once knew has mysteriously crumbled and the locals are nowhere to be found. Paul starts off his day with a routine visit to inspect his nearby oil rig, but before he knows it, his entire family has landed with him on the rotting metal tower,” Variety first reported on the film’s logline.
“From the depths of the ocean rises a massive megalodon known only by its name: the Black Demon. Under constant threat from this primeval species of shark, Paul must find a way to get his family back to shore alive.”
Also joining the cast are Jorge A. Jimenez (Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills, Netflix’s “Narcos”), Héctor Jiménez (Jared Hess’ Nacho Libre), Raúl Méndez (“Narcos”), Edgar Flores (Cary Joji Fukunaga’s Sin Nombre), Venus Ariel (Ava DuVernay’s upcoming “DMZ”) and Carlos Solórzano (Eva Longoria’s upcoming Flamin’ Hot).
Written by Boise Esquerra (Austin Film Festival nominated “Blackwater”), the film will wrap principal photography at the end of January on location in the Dominican Republic.
