Jerry Cantrell, founding member of Alice In Chains, continues to celebrate his latest release, Brighten with the enchanting and haunted animated music video for “Siren Song”, which premieres exclusively on Bloody Disgusting.
The new animated video, directed and animated by Nate Merritt, shows a western-themed fantasy world that could be a trip through the mind of the songwriter but can also be interpreted by the viewer as a metaphor for life’s challenges: work, love, and loss mixed with the beauty of a life well-lived. Lots of easter eggs for Jerry fans but also fun and haunting video for the song itself, rife with wildlife, wilderness, and wandering travelers.
“I had a great time working with the very talented Nate Merritt and Josh Richman on this video to bring ‘Siren Song to life through animation,” Cantrell tells Bloody Disgusting. “Nate’s imagery is beautiful and impactful, a perfect visual companion to the music that tells the story I started out with, and travels far beyond it. A true collaborative effort, great work guys.”
Cantrell also shares his favorite horror movie with Bloody Disgusting: “When I was younger, I loved horror movies. A Nightmare on Elm Street, and other movies with Freddy, come to mind as favorites. That was an especially good time for the horror movie genre.” He adds: “I was a big fan of Stephen King novels and the worlds he created too.”
The video is the companion piece to the single, “Siren Song” released earlier this year from Jerry’s LP, Brighten, which received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Seattle Times, Consequence and SPIN.
Jerry will be going on a North American Tour, starting on March 24, 2022, in St Paul, MN until May 8, 2022, in San Diego, CA. Dates are available here.
