Up next from Mandy director Panos Cosmatos is a brand new sci-fi/fantasy/horror movie titled Nekrokosm, officially announced and detailed by The Hollywood Reporter today.
Cosmatos is directing Nekrokosm, which is being written by Maegan Houang (Counterpart). The film is being jointly produced by A24 and Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films.
THR reports this afternoon, “Nekrokosm’s logline is being kept secret, but is described as a “phantasmagorical fantasy nightmare” and set deep within a strange galaxy where two lovers are torn apart as they try to survive a malevolent invasion.”
THR also notes that A24 is financing and handling worldwide releasing.
Prior to directing the Nicolas Cage-starring Mandy, which Cage himself recently described as being a “terrific” recent project of his, Cosmatos wrote and directed 2010’s Beyond the Black Rainbow. Needless to say, a new genre project from Cosmatos will always be cause for excitement, as he’s proven himself to be a visionary filmmaker with wild visions of wild worlds.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on Nekrokosm in the coming months!
Here’s the plot of Mandy, to remind you how wild Cosmatos tends to get: “The enchanted lives of a couple in a secluded forest are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance.”
