After a series of delays, Adam Robitel‘s sequel Escape Room: Tournament of Champions was finally released in US theaters back in July 2021, the film pulling in $25.3 million domestically and $51.9 million worldwide. A far cry from the 2019 movie’s franchise-starting $155.7 million worldwide, but of course that movie wasn’t released during a deadly pandemic.
The first Escape Room movie made $33.9 million of its worldwide total from China, and the 2021 sequel will now finally have the chance to make some money in China as well.
Deadline reports that Escape Room: Tournament of Champions will be released in theaters in China on April 2, 2022, almost a full year after the film’s release elsewhere.
“Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is the sequel to the box office hit psychological thriller that terrified audiences around the world. In this installment, six people unwittingly find themselves locked in another series of escape rooms, slowly uncovering what they have in common to survive…and discovering they’ve all played the game before.”
Taylor Russell and Logan Miller are back from Robitel’s first Escape Room, starring in the new movie alongside Indya Moore, Holland Roden, Thomas Cocquerel, and Carlito Olivero.
