While we wait for the HBO Max prequel series, currently titled “Welcome to Derry,” we’d like to remind you that the hotly-anticipated documentary Pennywise: The Story of IT is coming exclusively to the Bloody Disgusting-powered SCREAMBOX streaming service this summer. Ahead of its arrival on SCREAMBOX, the doc will premiere at Panic Fest 2022.
Panic Fest 2022 runs from April 28-May 8, 2022.
Crawling out of the sewers from co-directors John Campopiano (Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary) and Christopher Griffiths (Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser), Pennywise: The Story of IT takes an in-depth look into the creation of this iconic villain through dozens of interviews with cast and crew.
“The central figure of one of Stephen King’s most terrifying novels, It, the character Pennywise burned itself into the country’s collective subconscious. Even thirty years after its release, the notorious villain and the popular two-part miniseries, which has gone on to achieve cult status, live on in the minds of horror fans.
“The film looks at what went into creating the nightmarish films, including casting, production, and practical effects. From Tim Curry to Richard Thomas and even Seth Green, the franchise’s exceptional band of actors brought the chilling story to life across dual generations. Featuring interviews and never-before-seen footage, the documentary captures not only the spark the It saga created when it was released but also the lasting impact it has had on horror and on film in general.”
The 10th annual Panic Fest will also feature special guests Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl from Shudder’s “The Last Drive-In,” and Sleepwalkers director Mick Garris.
This year’s lineup includes over 30 feature films and 50+ short films from around the world in addition to signature podcasts, special events, and virtual meet-ups via the Gather platform.
