Filming is underway on Zack Snyder‘s new Netflix movie Rebel Moon, and we’ve learned from Deadline today that Rupert Friend is now being replaced by Ed Skrein.
Friend had to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts, Deadline reports.
In addition to directing, Snyder is also co-writing the script with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300). The film has been referred to as “an epic sci-fi fantasy.”
Here’s the plot synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon…

Michiel Huisman (“The Haunting of Hill House”), Cary Elwes (Saw), Corey Stoll (“The Strain”), and Alfonso Herrera (“The Exorcist”) most recently joined the ensemble cast.
“This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan,” Zack Snyder recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.”
In fact, THR recently noted, the story was originally a Star Wars pitch!
