The John Wick Cinematic Universe is getting its first spinoff movie with Ballerina, and Ana de Armas is leading the cast. But will any of the franchise mainstays appear in this one?
The Wrap reports this week that Ian McShane will indeed appear in Ballerina, for starters, while Collider has reported that Keanu Reeves will also appear in the spinoff movie!
No word yet on how much of a role Keanu Reeves will play in Ballerina, but he’ll of course be the star of the show for John Wick: Chapter 4, set for release on March 23, 2023.
As for Ballerina, Len Wiseman (Underworld, “Swamp Thing”) is directing the film, now in production. Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3) wrote the new movie’s script.
“Ballerina focuses on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.”
Revealed in Chapter 3, Anjelica Huston’s character the Director trains ballerinas in the same facility where Wick was trained to be an assassin, so the groundwork has already been laid.
With three installments and a fourth one on the way, the John Wick franchise has only been getting more and more popular as the years go on, so it’s only natural that the franchise is aiming to become a full-on cinematic universe. The best part? It’s hardly a forced idea, as the franchise is absolutely *loaded* with compelling mythology that’s ripe for expansion.
