The Joy and Terror of Horror Movies Adapted Into Video Games [Safe Room Podcast]

Before tuning into this week’s discussion, make sure to checkout last week’s episode in which Rob Coakley of Hometown Ghost Stories joined us to chat all about the Resident Evil 2 remake!

When most genre fans hear “adaptation,” their minds likely jump straight to film adaptations of games.

And I don’t know if you know this or not, but people have feelings about video game movies.

Neil and I discussed that very topic early on in Safe Room’s history. So we were elated when Dread XP writer Ian Marvin reached out to us expressing interest in chatting about the other side of the adaptation coin:

That being horror films adapted into games.

When you stop and think about it, chances are you’ll be able to recall at least a handful of games originating from film. Sure, games such as The Thing, The Blair Witch Project, and god knows how many Alien titles will likely come to mind. But beneath the surface of one’s vague memory, there are a surprising number of adaptations that aren’t all that far off the mark of what separates quality adaptations from marketing, well, cash-ins.

Something that we discuss in depth with Ian, as well as sharing some personal adaptation favorites and pitching a few horror films we’d love to see adapted into a game!
