Actor Ryan Phillippe (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Wish Upon) is set to produce and star in One Mile and a sequel that sees his character in pursuit of a murderous cult.
As if that’s not enough, Deadline reports that One Mile and its sequel has been greenlit, to be shot back-to-back and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
In the film, “after his release from prison, a father (Phillippe) tries to reconnect with his daughter by taking her on a college tour, but they find themselves battling for more than their relationship when a murderous cult living in the woods pursues them.”
John Hlavin (Underworld: Awakening, “The Man Who Fell to Earth”) is writing and executive producing both One Mile and its immediate sequel. The films are based on an idea by producer Aaron Kaplan’s daughter, Jaiden Kaplan, who will serve as a producer.
Deadline also reported that “Jaiden Kaplan, currently a junior at Duke, came up with the idea for One Mile while she and her dad were on a college tour in the Northeast in 2019 and were driving on a particularly desolate highway surrounded by woods on one side and half-frozen lakes on the other.”
In other words, One Mile will find likely find the estranged father and daughter completely isolated in the wilderness while running for their lives from the murderous cult.
Phillippe and Hlavin previously collaborated on the USA Network series “Shooter.”
One Mile marks Kapital Entertainment’s first foray into features. Producing for Kapital are Aaron Kaplan, Brian Morewitz and Michael Lohmann. Kevin Marco is the executive in charge.
Stay tuned for more details on this cult thriller double feature as they arrive.
