With The Last of Us series turning the big 1-0 later this year, and the fact that the HBO adaptation is right around the corner, Naughty Dog has done a bit of a kickoff for the series’ big year. In addition to teasing interviews and behind-the-scenes looks at the original The Last of Us, The Last of Us Part I, and its television adaptation, Naughty Dog has shared another look at the long-awaited The Last of Us standalone multiplayer game with a new piece of concept artwork.
For starters, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has revealed that the series has now sold over 37 million copies as of December 2022. “To know that Joel, Ellie, and our whole cast of characters have been experienced and loved by so many of you drives the entire studio forward.”
In case you missed the announcement ahead of The Game Awards last month, the PC version of The Last of Us will arrive on on Steam and the Epic Games Store on March 3rd. Details and specs for the port will be revealed at a later date.
As for that multiplayer spin-off, Druckmann says that the project is “shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio, but one rooted in Naughty Dog’s passion for delivering incredible stories, characters, and gameplay.”
Druckmann closed the announcement saying that Naughty Dog will have “some fun surprises” for fans later this year, including an inside look into the original game, its remake, and the HBO series “in order to offer you a deeper appreciation for the work that went into your favorite characters, locations, and moments.”
Co-written and executive produced by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Druckmann HBO‘s “The Last of Us” will premiere on January 15, 2023 on HBO Max, and stars Pedro Pascal (“The Mandalorian”) as Joel, and Bella Ramsey (“Game of Thrones”) as Ellie.
