Up next from the Universal Monsters brand is Renfield, a comedic horror movie that’s centered on Dracula’s fly-eating henchman. Nicholas Hoult (The Menu) is starring as Renfield, with Nicolas Cage playing Count Dracula. This morning, the official Renfield trailer has arrived.
Renfield comes to theaters on April 14, 2023, said to be a “modern-day adventure story that is comedic in tone.” Watch the Renfield trailer below for your first look at Cage’s Dracula!
“Evil doesn’t span eternity without a little help” is the new tagline for Renfield, which definitely looks to be a comedy-horror movie that puts a unique twist on the iconic tale. In this take on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, Renfield realizes he’s in a toxic relationship with Dracula that he needs to get out of. But is there life beyond serving the infamous Prince of Darkness?
One thing is for certain: Nicolas Cage is dropping fang and aiming to deliver one of the most bonkers takes on Dracula that we’ve seen to date. And we can’t wait to drink what he’s serving.
“In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.”
Universal’s Renfield is based on an original pitch from “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman. Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, LEGO Batman Movie) directed the movie.
The film co-stars Awkwafina (The Farewell, Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings), Ben Schwartz (Sonic, The Afterparty) and Adrian Martinez (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Focus).
Ryan Ridley (“Rick and Morty”) wrote the script for Renfield.
