The Alien franchise is headed to the small screen with a TV series in the works over at FX, and FX chief John Landgraf confirms today that filming is set to begin sometime this year.
“Noah [Hawley] is currently in production on the fifth season of Fargo but he’s in active preproduction on Alien; he’s written scripts,” Landgraf said today, transcribed by Deadline.
Landgraf added, “I think he’s meeting with his production designer in Austin this weekend, gearing up for production this year after he completes the fifth season of Fargo.”
Ellen Ripley will NOT be making an appearance in the series, we were recently told, which is set here on Earth decades before the events of the original Alien movie.
Landgraf had previously teased that creator Noah Hawley‘s take on the Alien franchise works as both an “extension and reinvention” of the films that have come before it.
FX originally noted, “Expect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth.”
Last we heard, Ridley Scott is expected to be on board as producer.
As for the Alien film franchise, Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) is directing a brand new Alien movie this year that’s being described as “an original standalone feature.”
