We’ve been talking about a potential Beetlejuice 2 for so long now that I won’t believe it’s real until I’m sitting in my local theater watching it, but The Hollywood Reporter brings an exciting update on the project this week. According to their sources, Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday,” Scream VI) is in talks to join Michael Keaton in the upcoming sequel!
Tim Burton is also expected to return to direct Beetlejuice 2 for Warner Bros. The project would reunite Burton and Ortega, who worked together on Netflix’s “Wednesday.”
THR reports, “Production is eying a late May or early June shoot in London, but budget has not been set, resulting in a back and forth. If a deal is made, sources say Ortega would play the daughter of Lydia, the character played by Winona Ryder in the original.”
No word yet on whether or not Ryder would also return as Lydia Deetz.
With Jenna Ortega’s star on the rise and Michael Keaton’s career on the upswing as well, Beetlejuice 2 is primed to be a massive success in theaters. Stay tuned for more as we learn it.
The original Beetlejuice was directed by Burton in 1988 and has become a cult favorite. It starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as ghosts who haunt their old home. When a little girl (Winona Ryder) accidentally unleashes a mischievous ghost (Michael Keaton), the ghosts try to drive the homeowners (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) out of the house.
