For Halloween 2021, Disney+ entered the world of R.L. Stine with “Just Beyond,” an 8-episode anthology series based on Stine’s line of comic books. The series never got a second season, with Disney+ leaving its fate hanging in the balance these past two years.
Unfortunately, we’ve learned this week that Stine’s “Just Beyond” will be one of many Disney+ original projects that are soon being deleted from the streaming service entirely.
As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Disney is following Warner Bros. Discovery and removing under-performing titles from its streaming services in a bid to write off nearly $2 billion from its bottom line. In all, there are more than 30 shows that will be removed starting next week from the platforms in this first round of reductions. The titles will vanish starting May 26.”
The long list of titles being removed from Disney+ includes…
- America the Beautiful
- Among the Stars
- Artemis Fowl
- Be Our Chef
- Best In Dough
- Best In Snow
- The Big Fib
- Big Shot
- Black Beauty
- Cheaper By the Dozen (2022)
- Clouds
- Diary of a Future President
- Disney Fairy Tale Weddings
- Dollface
- Earth To Ned
- Everything’s Trash
- Fairy Tale Weddings
- Foodtastic
- Harmonious Live
- Howard
- It’s a Dog’s Life With Bill Farmer
- Just Beyond
- Little Demon
- Love In The Time Of Corona
- Maggie
- Magic Camp
- The Making Of Willow
- The Mighty Ducks
- More Than Robots
- The Mysterious Benedict Society
- The One And Only Ivan
- Own the Room
- Pentatonix: Around the World for the Holidays
- Pick of the Litter
- Pistol
- The Premise
- The Princess
- The Quest
- Rogue Trip
- Rosaline
- Shop Class
- Stargirl
- Stuntman
- Super/Natural
- Timmy Failure
- Turner & Hooch
- Weird But True
- Willow
- Wolfgang
- The World According To Jeff Goldblum
- Y: The Last Man
These cost-saving measures will effectively wipe much of this content off the map completely, as shows like “Just Beyond” and “Willow” aren’t currently available on physical media. As THR notes, it’s possible that some of the titles on the list will get a second chance at life through being licensed out to other streamers; it’s also possible we never see some of them again.
It would seem the streaming bubble has officially burst, with more casualties expected.
“Just Beyond” hailed from writer/showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and 20th Century Fox Television. Stine served as co-executive producer, with Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) directing two episodes. Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) and Lexi Underwood (The First Lady) star.
“I grew up watching Twilight Zone reruns and the original Amazing Stories with my parents,” Grahame-Smith said in a statement back in 2021. “I’ve always wanted to make a genre anthology series that families could enjoy together, and do it in a way that delivered for kids and adults alike. R.L. Stine has been a part of millions of childhoods, and Disney+ has already proven itself as a place that knows how to make high-quality shows for the whole family. I couldn’t be more excited to be working with both of them.”
“Back in the day, we had a Goosebumps HorrorLand attraction at Walt Disney World,” said author R.L. Stine in the same press release. “It was one of the thrills of my life. Now I’m thrilled to be back with Disney for the TV series based on my graphic novels. Writing Just Beyond for BOOM! Studios has been a joy from the beginning, and I’m so happy to have the wonderful screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith bring the series to life on Disney+. How lucky can I be?”
