Next month, Popcorn Frights Film Festival is celebrating Clive Barker’s Nightbreed in a massive way with a special screening of the Director’s Cut hosted by star Anne Bobby. As if that’s not enough, Bobby is bringing a first look at her upcoming horror anthology Kindling.
Bloody Disgusting can exclusively debut the trailer for the anthology that gives a closer look at Bobby’s segment “The Lovers.”
Currently in production, Kindling is an anthology film directed by Erynn Dalton and written by Joseph Zettelmaier and Michael Alan Herman that is part queer horror, folk horror, body horror, and creature feature.
The third tale in the anthology, “The Lovers,” stars Anne Bobby (Nightbreed, BioShock) and Lukas Hassel (The Blacklist), who will be appearing at the Popcorn Frights Film Festival on Friday, August 18, for a special first look of this segment, followed by a special presentation of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed (Director’s Cut).
About Bobby’s segment in Kindling, “The Morris family has one purpose- to hunt the hidden monsters that walk the earth. Tough-as-nails, wheelchair-bound monster hunter Ele Morris can no longer hunt, so the responsibility must fall to her wife Rachel and their son. When her supernatural powers tell her a monster walks among them, she learns a dark secret that threatens their family and the legacy they have built.”

Dalton said ahead of the festival, “I’m so excited to release ‘The Lovers’ as a sneak preview of ‘Kindling’ for the Popcorn Frights audience! Directing Anne Bobby and Lukas Hassel was such a delight and I can’t wait for people to see their amazing work in this segment. Truly, the entire cast was a dream, especially when all the fake blood started flowing- we had entirely too much fun playing in the goop!”
“The most Henry James story, nestled into an anthology Rod Serling could have written – there was no way I could say ‘no’ to this one. A perfect modern gothic, helmed by some of the most gifted artists in independent film, including a cast that I felt free to take every chance with. I envy all about to discover the path ‘The Lovers’ takes,” Bobby said in a statement.
Hassel adds, “One of the best parts of being an actor is collaborating on exciting and visionary projects with other artists. ‘Kindling’ is such a project, created by the desire to explore the deepest corners of human nature in a cinematic and meaningful way. Coming to a film festival like Popcorn Frights to celebrate the hard work with the team makes it all the sweeter.”
Popcorn Frights Film Festival will be taking place August 10-20 in Fort Lauderdale, South Beach and virtually nationwide. Tickets and all-access passes at popcornfrights.com
