Steelkrill Studio is back again after dabbling in cosmic horror with Rotten Flesh. This time around, they’re taking the unorthodox approach to the Stealth and Survival Horror genres with Baby Blues Nightmares, casting you as a toddler on a tricycle.
Available for wishlisting on Steam, Baby Blues Nightmares is described as having you do what it takes in order to survive as a child and their vivid imagination (or is it?). As a brave toddler, you must navigate through the corridors and dimly lit playrooms to recover your five beloved toys, all while trying to unravel the mysteries that shroud the facility.
Luckily, you have your trusty trike with which to get around. You must fix and maintain your tricycle, but you can also customize your wheels, as well as paint your trike and find collectables to pimp it out. As you might expect, the game has you seeing things from the eyes of a toddler, which means having to navigate a world filled with oversized obstacles and toys. The play areas you’ll encounter are constantly changing, requiring you to adapt to new challenges and obstacles.
Taking a cue from Metal Gear Solid 3 (seriously), Baby Blues Nightmares has a hunger mechanic that also serves as your happiness. You’ll have to maintain your happiness by eating chocolates, food and more. The more scared you are, you more chance you have to cry, which can give up your position to enemies easily. You’ll also need to avoid things like squeaky toys, breathing too loud and noisy footsteps to avoid detection.
And seeing as you’re a toddler, you can make use of the walls to mark locations or important info from the pens located around the world. Or, if you just feel like drawing on the walls for the heck of it.
