New “Tomb Raider” Project Gets a Series Order at Amazon

Lara Croft will return with a small screen series over at Amazon Prime Video, with Deadline reporting today that Amazon has given a series order to the new “Tomb Raider” project.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) is developing and writing the upcoming series, which has been described by Amazon this week as being both “epic” and “globe-trotting.”

“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all,” Waller-Bridge said in a statement.

Waller-Bridge will executive produce alongside Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt.

It had been announced last year that Amazon will also be developing a Tomb Raider movie and video game, with the series, game, and movie intended to be set in the same universe.

Lara Croft has of course been played on the screen by both Angelina Jolie and more recently Alicia Vikander, but no casting has been announced for Amazon’s “Tomb Raider” series.
