Another day, another milestone for the Resident Evil franchise, this time with Resident Evil Village hitting the 10 million units sold milestone. Capcom made the announcement yesterday, coinciding with the release of the results of the Capcom Town survey, where fans voted on which franchise they would most like to see a sequel. And you’ll never guess what franchise won.
Three years since its 2021 release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on May 7, Resident Evil Village has earned 10 million sales worldwide, which makes it the fastest Resident Evil entry to do so. That doesn’t move the needle much in terms of its place on Capcom’s Platinum Titles list at number 6, though Village would now be firmly ahead of Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6 and the Resident Evil 3 remake.
Capcom subsequently hasn’t updated their Platinum Titles list since March 31, so we’ll have to see what the final results will be once that’s done.
Meanwhile, the results of the fan survey on Capcom Town were also revealed, with just over 250,000 people casting their votes. Among the questions, the results for which franchise fans would like to see a sequel the most went to Dino Crisis with 80,769 votes, a percentage of 31.7% of the total votes cast.
Dino Crisis also fared well with the “Which of the following Capcom games do you like the best?” question, coming in second with 10,978 votes to Devil May Cry 5‘s 15,157 votes. Based on another question regarding “complaints”, which saw fans requesting that Capcom reboot previous IPs, it’s safe to say that Dino Crisis is still very much on players’ minds.
Whether Capcom will take the survey to heart, and not give fans platitudes, is another issue.
