Psycho Goreman isn’t the only hunky boy in filmmaker Steven Kostanski’s cinematic universe. The filmmaker’s zany horror comedy, Frankie Freako, is set to make its premiere later this month at the Fantasia International Film Festival, where new images tease the cartoonish mayhem ahead.
While Psycho Goreman introduced writer/director Kostanski’s (The Void, Leprechaun Returns) take on ’90s tokusatsu, centered around an intergalactic conqueror, Frankie Freako will unleash a maniacal rock-n-roll party monster.
Frankie Freako stars Conor Sweeney (The Editor, Father’s Day) as he accidentally lets loose “a trio of tiny trouble-makers into his home, led by the maniacal rock-n-roll party monster Frankie Freako. It’s a race against time as Conor must defeat the rambunctious ruffians and clean up their trail of destruction before his wife returns from her weekend work trip, all while going on an unexpected journey of self-discovery.”
Fantasia describes the film as an “imaginative adventure, saturated with throwback cartoonish fun à la GHOULIES, wildly creative puppets, big laughs, and a helluva good time!”
The festival also provides a larger plot description that provides more insight into the characters: “Conor (Conor Sweeney, Manborg, The Editor) is a square. He doesn’t swear, thinks holding hands with his gorgeous wife Kristina (Kristy Wordsworth, BLAZE) is a wild night, and goes to bed well before 9 pm. When his slimy boss, Mr. Buechler (Adam Brooks, The Editor, Psycho Goreman), and Kristina call him out on his squareness, Conor is deeply offended. Determined to prove them wrong, he’s lured by a 1-900 ad promising the party of a lifetime with a creature named Frankie Freako. Calling the hotline opens a world of chaos, and Frankie, joined by two other ‘Freako’ friends, trash his house. Who are these little monsters, and why have they decided to torment him endlessly? Conor must get rid of them before his wife returns from a weekend trip, plus appease the creepy Buechler. These interdimensional beings are more than pesky, bringing their troubles and interplanetary terrors right to Conor’s door!”
It sounds as though Kostanski is getting even wilder with his latest film, and we’re so in. The festival also unveiled new images from the film, giving a clearer view of the over-the-top, absurdist fun ahead.
Adam Brooks (Psycho Goreman) and Kristy Wordsworth star alongside Sweeney.
