Vampires, Ghost Stories, and More: A Conversation with Rodney Barnes [Scare You To Sleep Podcast]

Shelby Novak of the Scare You To Sleep podcast sat down with Rodney Barnes, a Hollywood mainstay with an impressive and eclectic resume: from The Boondocks to HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers, and so much in between.

They discuss Barnes’ newest project the thrilling podcast series RUN, FOOL! A weekly compendium of grisly and harrowing tales, all equally frightening, modern ghost stories, each of a different place and period and is brought to you by the award-winning trifecta of Ballen Studios, Campside Media, and AT WILL MEDIA.

Barnes’ graciously doles out bits of advice and knowledge from his years as a writer for TV, movies, graphic novels, and now podcasting. If you’re an aspiring author, I wouldn’t miss it!

Barnes has a number of projects in development including an adaptation of Chris Leslie-Hynan’s novel “Ride Around Shining” for Jonah Hill’s Strong Baby with LaKeith Stanfield attached to star; a miniseries on the life of golf great Tiger Woods; and HBO’s Jack Johnson limited series starring Mahershala Ali.

Alongside TV, Barnes is a veteran comic book creator whose Eisner Award-nominated Killadelphia now has a television show in development at Levantine TV. His publishing imprint, Zombie Love Studios, is dedicated to storytelling through unique BIPOC perspectives, including Killadelphia—nominated for an Eisner Award, Blacula—an adaptation of the cult horror classic, and Monarch—an apocalyptic sci-fi adventure series following a group of Compton school kids in the midst of an alien invasion. Barnes has also penned issues for Army of Darkness, James Bond Himeros, Lucasfilm’s Lando: Double or Nothing, Lion Forge’s Quincredible, and Marvel’s Falcon and Secret Empire.
