The 2006 psychological horror film has been newly restored in 4K from the original camera negative with Dolby Vision/HDR.

Ashley Judd, Michael Shannon, Lynn Collins, Brían F. O’Byrne, and Harry Connick Jr. star.

Tracy Letts (August: Osage County) penned the script, based on his 1996 play of the same name.

The disc features reversible artwork. Archival Special Features include:

In the film, “At a rundown desert motel, Agnes (Ashley Judd) begins a tentative relationship with a newcomer named Peter (Michael Shannon). He has a strange charisma, one that offers fearful and unstable Agnes a flicker of hope. When Peter reveals that the military deliberately infected him with a bug and that he has tiny insects crawling under his skin, paranoia begins to envelop the desperate pair.”

While Friedkin’s highly anticipated return to horror was largely dismissed upon release — even receiving a dreaded “F” CinemaScore — many viewers have come to appreciate it as an uncompromising descent into madness fortified by stellar performances from Judd and Shannon.

In his 2021 article, Luiz H. C. wrote, “At its core, Bug truly is a heart-wrenching love story (and a damn good one, at that), but it’s also a chilling exploration of how conspiratorial narratives can lead lonely and vulnerable people to hurt themselves and others as they search for validation.”
