Fresh off working together on last year’s Hitchcockian thriller Watcher, Maika Monroe (Longlegs) and director Chloe Okuno (V/H/S/94: Storm Drain) will reteam for Brides.
Deadline reports, “The [horror] film is currently in pre-production and is set to start shooting in Spring 2025. Chloe Okuno is directing from a screenplay she penned.”
Here’s the synopsis: “Set in 1960s Italy, Sally Bishop (Monroe) and her husband travel to a remote villa in the wake of Sally’s nervous breakdown. The villa’s owner, a mysterious count, takes a peculiar interest in Sally. But he gets far more than he anticipated when Sally’s feminist chaos is added to his perfect, violent Eden of vampire brides.”
As you might have guessed, Chloe Okuno’s Brides is loosely inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and it’s set to “flip Bram Stoker’s narrative on its head, exploring the struggle between societal repression and carnal desire.” It’s also described as “gothic, glamorous, and gory.”
Deadline also notes in today’s report, “FilmNation Entertainment will launch international sales on the flick at the upcoming American Film Market. UTA Independent Film Group is repping global and domestic rights.”
“Brides is set to redefine the horror genre with Choe Okuno’s unique blend of feminist themes and gory visuals,” said producer Anthony Bregman. “The script is dynamic and unsettling in all the best ways. Chloe always brings such dread and complexity to her characters, and we can’t wait to work with her and Maika to bring Sally to life or to un-death as the case may be.”
