While we wait for Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to bring the Ghost with the Most back to theaters on September 6, Tubi has delivered a surprise treat to Beetlejuice fans this week.
All four seasons of “Beetlejuice: The Animated Series” are now streaming on Tubi!
The animated series adaptation of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice originally aired from 1989 to 1991 on ABC and later FOX, with Burton himself serving as the executive producer of the small screen expansion. The series featured 94 episodes in total, and for many kids of the ’80s and ’90s it was their very first introduction to the iconic characters Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz.
“Beetlejuice: The Animated Series” follows Lydia Deetz and her friend Beetlejuice and their adventures in the “mortal world” and the supernatural realm known as the Neitherworld.
Felix Vasquez Jr. explained here on Bloody Disgusting just last year, “While the original movie excelled in being as menacing, bizarre, and raunchy as possible, executive producers Tim Burton and David Geffen opted for a more kid friendly variation of the Ghost with the Most for the animated series. The series was a shockingly faithful spinoff, channeling the Gothic aesthetic and sinister supernatural themes, but toning them down for younger audiences.”
“In each episode, the duo would either fend off the villain of the week, or Lydia would spend her time chasing after Beetlejuice to make sure he didn’t get himself into massive trouble,” Felix continued. “They, of course, were always careful to avoid the dreaded sand worms. The series also expanded on Beetlejuice’s universe by introducing more villains and monsters.”
Felix adds, “On its own it’s still a wonderful animated series that clicks beautifully into the Tim Burton universe, and might even work as pitch perfect gateway horror for kids of today.”
