After all the teasing, after all the “it’s not dead yet”, we’ll finally get Dead Island 2 in 2023! Thanks again to Amazon, who earlier leaked the New Tales From the Borderlands release date, they also leaked the Day One Edition of Dead Island 2.
Per the Amazon listing (before it was heavily redacted, naturally), Dead Island 2 will be available on both last-gen and current-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as PC on February 3, 2023 (per the original page listing). They also posted a summary of the story, which is as follows (thanks, GameInformer):
“Several months after the events on Banoi, the United States military has put the Golden State under full quarantine. Now a restricted zone, California has become a bloody paradise for those who refuse to leave their homes and an action-packed playground for renegades who seek adventure, glory and a fresh start. Combining the classic Dead Island elements of immersive close combat, action and role-playing, Dead Island 2 features crazy, never-before-seen handcrafted weapons and over-the-top characters in taking players from the iconic Golden Gate to the celebrated beachfront boardwalk of southern California’s Venice Beach.”
As in the first game (which came out over a decade ago), players will be crafting weapons to fight back the seemingly never-ending hordes plaguing the West Coast. Neither Deep Silver or developer Dambuster Studios has confirmed or responded to this release date, so fingers crossed that it holds.
