Opening in theaters this weekend, Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is Sam Raimi‘s first movie in nine years, following in the wake of Oz the Great and Powerful, Drag Me to Hell, and of course, Raimi’s original three Spider-Man movies. What’s next for Sam Raimi, you may be wondering? And will we have to wait another ten years for his return?
Speaking with Slash Film this week, Raimi lightly touched upon what he’d like to do next, suggesting that something a bit less massive in scope may be on the menu post-Strange.
“I wouldn’t want to go back to the budget of the first Evil Dead. I mean, that was brutal,” Raimi notes. “That was extremely difficult. But I would like to make something the size of The Gift or A Simple Plan, those smaller budget movies that are just about the characters and thrills.”
“An intense little horror movie would be great,” Raimi adds.
At the moment, Raimi doesn’t appear to have any upcoming projects on his directorial slate, though he did serve as an active producer on the upcoming feature film Evil Dead Rise.
Raimi is also producing upcoming films including 65 and Boy Kills World.
Stay tuned for more on all things Sam Raimi as we learn it!
