While Halloween Kills added another $8.5 million to its domestic total this past Halloween Weekend, two original horror movies released over the weekend didn’t fare quite as well.
Scott Cooper’s Antlers debuted in the #6 spot on the domestic charts, scaring up $4,271,346 domestically thus far. The film’s worldwide total currently stands at $6,771,346.
Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho had a similar performance over the weekend, debuting in the #7 spot with $4,178,460. The worldwide total for the film is currently $6,502,460.
Antlers is playing in 2,800 theaters at the moment, we should note, while Last Night in Soho opened in 3,016 theaters. As for Halloween Kills, it’s currently playing in 3,616 theaters.
Out of the three films, the only one to be released at home was Halloween Kills, which is streaming on Peacock. Both Antlers and Last Night in Soho are theatrical exclusives for now.
Both films were also originally set for release in 2020, of course delayed due to the pandemic. The long delays no doubt hurt the box office performance of both films, as did the fact that we’re still very much in the midst of a pandemic. Even still, Halloween Weekend releases were gifts for both movies, but neither one managed to scare up much money from movie-goers.
The competition from Halloween Kills certainly didn’t help, and there’s a good chance both Antlers and Last Night in Soho will fare much better when they’re available for at-home rental.
At this time, neither film has a Digital or VOD release date set. Stay tuned.
