Arrow Video Brings 1998 Junji Ito Horror Movie ‘Tomie’ to Blu-ray

Tomie, the 1998 live action adaptation of Junji Ito’s hit manga, is coming to Blu-ray for the first time outside of Japan on November 19 from Arrow Video.

The J-horror film is presented in high definition with original Japanese lossless 5.1 and 2.0 stereo audio and English subtitles. The limited edition set also comes with a reversible sleeve with new art by Sara Deck and the original poster, a slipcover featuring Deck’s art, and a booklet with new writing by Zack Davisson and Eugene Thacker.

Ataru Oikawa, who penned the cult classic Door, writes and directs. Miho Kanno, Mami Nakamura, and Yoriko Douguchi star.

In the film, “Photography student Tsukiko is plagued by violent dreams as she struggles to recall long-suppressed memories following a teenage trauma with the help of a psychiatrist. Meanwhile, a detective investigating a missing high-school girl discovers a long line of similar cases that can be traced back decades, with all of the victims going by the name of Tomie Kawakami and all slaughtered and decapitated by jealous lovers before they reach womanhood. Tsukiko’s new neighbor seems to be harboring something nasty in the downstairs apartment, something which rapidly begins to take on a dangerous form.”

Tomie launched a film franchise in Japan with nine installments to date. Alexandre Aja was developing an English-language adaption for Quibi before the service was shut down.
