Atmospheric Horror Exploration Title ‘Roost’ Channels ‘Silent Hill’ Into Northern England [Trailer]

By now, everyone and their grandma knows about Silent Hill and its famous fog. Still, it was a pretty cool idea that led to Silent Hill‘s atmosphere being so creepy. Solo dev Jack Chapman (who also works at Auroch Digital) must think so, since he’s been busy in his spare time working on Roost, a brief atmospheric first person horror-exploration game that’s currently in development for Steam and itch.io.

Heavily inspired by P.T., Paratopic, and (of course) Silent Hill, Roost is set in the fictional North-East English town of Mournborough, a place seemingly lost to time that just so happens to hold more than a few dark secrets. You play as Declan Harker; a down-on-his-luck paranormal investigator who has been drawn to Mournborough, where his quest for answers quickly spirals into a personal nightmare.

Along with adopting that low-poly aesthetic that we love so much, Roost is channeled through “a bleak vision of the forgotten realm of northern England.” That of course includes that famous Silent Hill fog, coupled with some particularly dreary-looking surroundings that evoke a genuine creepiness.

Currently, there’s no release date for Roost, but you can keep up with the development via Jack’s YouTube and X pages.
