It’s been over a year since publisher HOOK and developer Duality Games released their first-person psychological horror title Unholy to Steam, with the promise of the console versions at a later date. That date for the console version of Unholy is now set for September 13 for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series.
Created by former Painkiller, Bulletstorm and Gears of War developers, Unholy centres on Dorothea, who’s on the search for her young child after they disappear from a decaying post-Soviet town. To do so, Dorothea will need to explore the aforementioned town, as well as the creepy and twisted world of Unholy, a grotesque society ruled by a relentless priest caste.
Unholy will feature a unique gameplay mechanic of using four different emotions – anger, fear, sadness and desire – to interact with the environment in order to destroy obstacles, trigger mechanisms, overload circuits, and illuminate your way. You can also use these emotions to confuse, lure or damage your opponents. Driven by an intense narrative, Unholy features visuals based on the works of reputed dark artist and Duality Games’ founder and art director, Tomasz Strzalkowski.
Everybody in the world of Unholy hides behind a mask, which can be the difference between life or death. You will build your own mask to get new skills and improve your abilities, or wear other masks to infiltrate, confuse your enemies and impersonate your foes.
