Announced by Sony during their CinemaCon presentation last night, singer Bad Bunny will lead the cast of an upcoming Spider-Man solo movie, playing Marvel’s El Muerto.
Deadline reminds, “The character of El Muerto aka Juan Carlos was a super powered wrestler who originally fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match in which he nearly unmasked the webslinger before being stung by Spider-Man with a paralyzing poison.
“After his oppressor El Dorado came to claim his life, he was saved by Spider-Man, after which the two team up to defeat Dorado.”
According to the site’s report, Bad Bunny took an interest in joining Sony’s universe of Marvel movies, personally hand-picking the Latin American character to play on screen. And it makes all the sense in the world that he chose a professional wrestler to play, as Bad Bunny is a huge fan of wrestling, recently making a string of appearances in World Wrestling Entertainment.
Deadline notes, “El Muerto would mark the first Latin superhero to get his own film in the universe of Marvel characters.”
Bad Bunny will first be seen on screen in Sony’s action-thriller Bullet Train.
