The English-language debut of Suicide Club director Sion Sono, Prisoners of the Ghostland is coming to theaters and on VOD and Digital September 17, 2021 via RLJE Films, and Cage himself has described the project as being “the wildest movie I’ve ever made.”
That quote is featured on the brand new official poster for Prisoners of the Ghostland, a gorgeous piece of art that plays up the samurai action headed our way in Cage’s next outing.
As Meagan explains her review, “Blending the western, post-apocalyptic, and samurai thriller genres, united by its polished neon-soaked aesthetic, this genre-mashup is nothing short of breathtaking.” Check out a taste of the madness down below!
Here’s the latest plot synopsis…
“In the treacherous frontier city of Samurai Town, a ruthless bank robber (Nicolas Cage) is sprung from jail by wealthy warlord The Governor (Bill Moseley), whose adopted granddaughter Bernice (Sofia Boutella) has gone missing. The Governor offers the prisoner his freedom in exchange for retrieving the runaway. Strapped into a leather suit that will self-destruct within five days, the bandit sets off on a journey to find the young woman—and his own path to redemption.”
Cage recently described, “It’s out there. I wear a skintight black leather jumpsuit with grenades attached to different body parts, and if I don’t rescue the governor’s daughter from this state line where they’re all ghosts and bring her back they’re gonna blow me up.”
