FakeFish and Undertow Games have given veteran Barotrauma players a run for their money with the new “Blood in the Water” update. Available now, the update brings with it a new difficulty settings, alongside new content and customization options for the underwater co-op title.
For starters, Blood in the Water adds two new monsters to Barotrauma—the Viperling and a new Spineling variant—which employ poison attacks. Not only that, but the devs have brought back the cave-dwelling Mantis, a monster that used to exist in early Barotrauma builds. Existing monsters have also been tweaked, with Abyss monsters now better at targeting characters inside the submarine for added danger.
New campaign difficulty settings have also been added, with the ability to adjust the campaign difficulty to your liking using one of four presets, or by fine-tuning various parameters yourself. There have also been improvements to the respawning system in multiplayer, which involves the removal of the Reaper’s Tax and replacing it with customizable respawning skill loss penalty. New wrecks and beacon stations have also been added, as well as a new kind of wreck mission.
Other changes with the update include a rebalancing of the diving suits for clearer use cases, as well as reducing the flooding speed to give players more time to react during a hull breach. This is in addition to the various other tweaks to animations and station events.
Barotrauma is available now in full after exiting from Early Access last year.
