After gracing fans with a bloody new trailer during Feardemic’s Fear Fest 2023, Ziggurat Interactive and developer Poppy Works have announced the release date for their brutal Hack-and-Slash title Slave Zero X. Players will take up the mantle of Shou, merge with the experimental Slave Unit Prototype, and tear down the tyrannical SovKhan on February 21, 2024.
The newest title in the classic Slave Zero franchise that began on the Sega Dreamcast and PC all the way back in 1999 brings a whole new side-scrolling hack-and-slash experience. Slave Zero X sees the protagonist, Shou, merging with a stolen Slave Unit Prototype, becoming a furious Devil, aiming to end the iron rule of the Sovereign Khan.
Featuring multiple gameplay modes and a variety of futuristic dystopian urban levels to battle through, players will string together brutal combos in the vein of Devil May Cry, and fight through waves of genetically enhanced biopunk opponents to the sounds of a “gnarly” synth soundtrack.
In keeping with the game’s theme, you’ll also be plowing your way through multiple mini-bosses and climactic arch-villains against a lo-fi blend of 2D and 3D art reminiscent of the 90s Dreamcast era.
Slave Zero X is currently in development for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch. Also, check out the demo to get a taste of what to expect next year.
