Keke Palmer (Jordan Peele’s Nope) is celebrating Halloween with a brand new horror short film on her KeyTV Network this week, which is dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices and showcasing diverse programming that includes unscripted series, short films, and compelling shows reflecting unique perspectives from creators of color.
The short is titled Blu Forest, and it premiered at a drive-in event on Sunday, October 29. The short makes its way online today, and Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive debut.
From director Antwan Lawshe, this exciting new thriller is executive produced and developed by none other than Emmy-award winning multi-hyphenate, Keke Palmer.
Keke Palmer said in a statement to BD, “If you know me, you know I love all things horror. It’s something that I grew up watching with my whole family, so it was only fitting that we bring that content to KeyTV this Halloween. In the past, BIPOC folks haven’t been included in conversations around horror, and we want to change that, because we’re here!”
“Blu Forest has such an original take on the genre, and the film’s writer & director, Antwan is a recent film school graduate, so I’m excited to work with emerging creators like him who have the talent and just need the platform to be seen as well as the community to support it,” Palmer continues. “Along with our dedicated horror podcast Live or Die, KeyTV is here to create content that delivers on what our audience loves and puts a new spin on what they expect.”
In Blu Forest, a blind musician leads his newfound group of friends to a remote cabin in the woods, seeking inspiration to overcome a creative slump. However, as they spend more time with him, they begin to unravel the mysteries surrounding the enigmatic musician, discovering that he is not who or what he claims to be.
Blu Forest holds special significance as it is the thesis project of Antwan, a recent graduate from the renowned LA Film School. KeyTV, a digital network led by Keke Palmer, has thrown its support behind this project to create new opportunities for the next generation of creators, making it a true representation of innovation and talent.
