It has now been four years since the cancellation of Starz series “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” which brought Bruce Campbell back as Ash Williams to continue storylines from Sam Raimi’s original trilogy. The series delivered three seasons of bloody fun before getting the axe, and the characters more recently made their return in Saber Interactive’s Evil Dead: The Game.
Campbell has made it clear over the years that he’s retired from playing Ash Williams again in live action, but that doesn’t mean he’s never going to be *voicing* the character again. In fact, Campbell indeed does provide the voice of Ash for the aforementioned Evil Dead: The Game, and it sounds like an animated “Ash vs. Evil Dead” continuation isn’t off the table.
Chatting with Campbell during San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, Collider asked the horror icon if there have been any talks of continuing the series. Here’s what he had to say….
“Yeah… as an animated series. You pick up right where the show left off. You can do the future a lot easier in animation. I still sound like Ash, and you know, my voice hasn’t been as beat up as my body has been so I can still do that crap. So I’ll still do the video game. And we’re already talking about an animated [series].”
The series finale of the Starz series brought Ash Williams into a post apocalyptic future, which is presumably where “Ash vs Evil Dead” Season 4 would’ve began. Could we someday down the road see Season 4 come to life as an animated spinoff project? Never say never!
Up next from the Evil Dead franchise is brand new feature film Evil Dead Rise, which will take the franchise beyond the cabin in the woods and beyond the Ash Williams character.
Evil Dead Rise is set to debut on HBO Max sometime later this year.
