In a shock to absolutely no one, Capcom confirmed during their Capcom Next event that they are indeed working on a new Resident Evil game. Director Koshi Nakanishi (who previously directed Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 7) uttered the short but sweet phrase, “We’re making a new Resident Evil.”
During the announcement that Resident Evil 7 would be coming to Apple devices tomorrow, Nakanishi chatted about his history with the franchise. In doing so, he revealed that Capcom was working on the next entry in the series, insinuating his involvement. “It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7: Biohazard]. But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial.”
Nakanishi declined to share details on the next entry, but hopes fans will be excited for the day he does reveal those details.
This of course comes back to those rumours that were floating around last month, ranging from this ninth entry, to Capcom remaking the remake of the original, and even remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Obviously, those rumours are to be taken with the usual salt until Nakanishi gives up the goods.
Meanwhile, Resident Evil 7 will arrive on the App Store on July 2 for iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and every iPad and Mac with the M1 chip or later, with the Resident Evil 2 remake coming soon.
Resident Evil 7 is also available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, the Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
