Released last year, Netflix‘s original action movie The Old Guard was hugely successful, and a sequel is now officially official. Charlize Theron will be back in The Old Guard 2.
Deadline reports that Victoria Mahoney is taking over the reins as director of the sequel, with Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor all returning to reprise their roles.
The first film’s director, Gina Prince-Bythewood, is staying on board as producer.
Based on the graphic novel series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, director Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s The Old Guard originally debuted on Netflix on July 10th, 2020.
Charlize Theron stars as a warrior named Andy, leader of a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die who have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries.
But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.
