We really haven’t had many video games inspired by giallo, have we? Indie developer Garmentdistrict has sought to remedy that with their giallo-inspired comedy horror game, Blood of The Killer. While technically the sixth in the series, each one is a standalone entry.
The story for Blood of The Killer is “tangled”, according to the devs, but it involves a Mechanical Bird museum, an attempted zine distro, a series of mysterious fires, some beheadings, and “the popular newspaper cartoon Mary Worth”. In a quiet country town, the drinky birds lie dreaming and severed heads roll slowly down the street. Your character, BB, doesn’t care about any of this, and is just in town to check out a zine distro. Will she discover the awful secret of the drinky birds – or fall prey to their curse…?
So yeah, the plot is a bit nutty, but it perfectly suits the visuals and the offbeat humour of the game. Best of all, Blood of The Killer is free to play, just like the rest of the entries. You can even download the game’s soundtrack from composer Tommy Tone’s bandcamp, if you so choose.
