Get ready to revisit The Exclusion Zone next year, as The Farm 51 have announced a sequel to 2021’s Chernobylite with Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone. This sequel to the post-apocalyptic action-RPG original is currently in development for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series, bringing with it a brand-new “planewalking” mechanic to its open world action.
Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone once again puts you in the Zone, which has been taken over by the high-energy material called Chernobylite, transforming the environment and forcing people to defend themselves against it using prototype technologies. You’re one of those people, a planewalker travelling the worlds in search of this rare resource. Cut off from the world, trapped in the Zone, attacked by hordes of nightmare creatures, you must fight for survival and unite the handful of remaining survivors.
Following the feedback from Chernobylite players, Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone introduces new elements that weren’t in the previous game: players can now explore a vast open world and a gameplay model in line with the most canonical action-RPGs. The plot, player character development, exploration, combat, weapons and gadgets, the number of side characters, relationships with other story characters have been expanded, providing more opportunities to build your own version of the story of survival.
Another new mechanic is planewalking, which allows you to switch your build and equipment on the fly. You’re free to develop more than one character skill set. Encountering a situation that your previously-prepared build will solve better than your current build? Planewalk and use another one.
In addition, Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone will include online co-op, where you have online cooperative missions embedded in the single-player campaign, allowing players to interact in various ways to achieve the goal.
