Taking the concept laid out by games such as Phasmophobia, but substituting it with aliens and space, developer OldYacht has announced Niktophobia, their upcoming sci-fi co-op horror game which will be heading to PC via Steam and VR in 2024. As the name suggests, not only will you and your team of up to four players have to contend with an alien presence, but also the dark itself.
The premise for Niktophobia sees you as part of a biological and chemical threat prevention team. Your mission is to gather, isolate and deliver unknown substances or objects for further analysis. Your team has been sent to a chemical research and development facility situated on a space station. Complicating matters is the fact that the facility recently had multiple power core failures, then suddenly stopped communicating.
As mentioned, the game will see your team having to complete your mission, while also contending with the random periods of darkness on the space station. You’ll have to choose which part of the station will be lit with respect to power, or resort to using personal equipment to light your way.
However, as you might expect, there’s an alien on board that seems keen to snack on you and your team. The alien’s AI is designed in such a way that it is always “physically present and reachable, planning actions and identifying unknown sources of disturbance.”
