Director Anna Biller‘s cult horror-comedy The Love Witch is now streaming on SCREAMBOX.
In the film, Elaine, a beautiful young witch, is determined to find a man to love her. In her gothic Victorian apartment, she makes spells and potions, and then picks up men and seduces them. However her spells work too well, and she ends up with a string of hapless victims. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved will drive her to the brink of insanity and murder.
“I wanted to make a movie about a witch because I think that every woman is made to feel like a witch by the men who don’t understand her: that is, mysterious, dangerous, different, abnormal,” said Anna Biller when the film was initially released. “Elaine, the main character, has men constantly freaking out around her because of her sexiness. But they don’t really love her, and this makes her feel lonely and alienated. So she takes her revenge. Elaine is monstrous, wreaking havoc wherever she goes, but she is also sympathetic, because she has essentially been driven mad by being a woman, and is struggling to find love and acceptance in a world that has disappointed her at every turn.”
Starring Samantha Robinson, Gian Keys, Laura Waddell, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Jared Sanford, Robert Seeley, and Jennifer Ingrum, The Love Witch is now on SCREAMBOX.
