Team17 Digital and Covenant.dev’s dark fantasy strategy game Gord has gotten that summer release date. The game will launch on August 8th for PC via Steam, as well as the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series. On top of that, Gord will be getting a playable demo during Steam Next Fest next week from June 19 to the 26.
Pre-orders for Gord are now available for all platforms. Those who choose to pre-order the physical release for Gord on consoles or digital release on Steam will receive the additional ‘Hold Your Ground’ scenario for the game’s Custom Scenarios mode, a digital soundtrack, and a digital art book. Digital pre-orders for the console versions will receive the ‘Hold Your Ground’ scenario only.
Created by a team that includes former Frostpunk and The Witcher 3 developers, Gord will see players command the Tribe of the Dawn and embrace the ethical complexity of leadership as they shepherd their community and protect them from invaders and monstrous beasts. Said monstrous beasts are creatures and deities inspired by Slavic folklore.
Players will have to complete quests to grow the tribe’s settlements (known as ‘gords’) and fortify them from invaders while managing their populace. They will need to oversee their citizens’ hunger, disease, and trauma, nurture their faith and train them for battle. That overseeing also includes managing their citizens’ sanity, as everything from illness to hunger and the death of kin can have devastating impact on their lives and well-being.
