From DC Comics, the “Dead Boy Detectives” series was originally announced as an HBO Max project, but THR reports the surprising news today that the series has moved to Netflix.
THR details, “Producers Warner Bros. Television shopped the drama after sources say the series didn’t fit with the new chapter of content that DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran are building for the comic book powerhouse. That plan includes five inter-connected shows that will live alongside Peacemaker on HBO Max. Also contributing to the show’s move between platforms is the fact that HBO Max would not have been able to market the show until 2024, with execs at the streamer blessing producers to take the show out elsewhere.”
The upcoming supernatural series for Netflix “follows a pair of ghostly detectives as they investigate murders related to the supernatural.”
George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri star as the main characters Edwin Payne (Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Revri), with Kassius Nelson playing Crystal Palace.
Created by writer Neil Gaiman and artists Matt Wagner and Malcolm Jones III, the “Dead Boy Detectives” characters first appeared in The Sandman #25 (April 1991).
These characters recently appeared in HBO Max’s “Doom Patrol.”
Steve Yockey (“The Flight Attendant”) wrote the pilot and will show-run alongside Beth Schwartz (Arrow). The series comes from Warner Bros. and Berlanti Productions.
