First, there were many delays for Deep Silver’s Dead Island 2. And now, in a twist, not only has Dead Island 2 gone gold, but it’s release has been pushed up a week!
Originally announced for April 28 (after another delay), the now-gold Dead Island 2 will instead release on PC via the Epic Games Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on April 21. Deep Silver and developer Dambuster Studios are “absolutely thrilled and totally relieved” at the announcement, which puts to bed one of the longest development stories in recent memory.
To give you some context, Dead Island first hit the scene in 2011. Dead Island 2 was announced way back in 2014, and we’ve mentioned many times the game’s journey through development hell. Deep Silver will be revealing more gameplay and trailers in the very near future leading up to the game’s release.
The story is set several months after the events of the first game. The United States military has put California under full quarantine. Now a restricted zone, California has become a bloody paradise for those who refuse to leave their homes and an action-packed playground for renegades who seek adventure, glory and a fresh start. Combining the classic Dead Island elements of immersive close combat, action and role-playing, Dead Island 2 features crazy, never-before-seen handcrafted weapons and over-the-top characters in taking players from the iconic Golden Gate to the celebrated beachfront boardwalk of southern California’s Venice Beach.
You asked for it, you got it. Dead Island 2 went gold and it's coming out a week early.
